Should I buy an over size piston ring in place of a 1982 Yamaha YZ80 Dirt Bike?
I have a dirt bike has YZ80J 1982 compression of the main problems to what I pretend to be a worn piston ring. No damage to the cylinder and the piston is also undamaged. I'm not sure if I should buy the size of standard piston ring or first over the size of the piston ring (25 mm) to compensate for the erosion the cylinder. I'm not certain whether or not the piston ring may be used in the cylinder that causes the need to replace it with one more ring size or whether a single standard going to do. This question is not limited to this bike, in particular, but rather the general rule for the replacement of piston rings in a cylinder unbored.
Large piston rings will not fit oversized pistons, the pistons standard. The only way to know what to do at this point is to measure the cylinder Internal micrometers. Any service manual should have the specifications of the cylinder in the list. If the cylinder is worn, not very likely because of what usually takes first place are the rings, but again can be measured to be safe, then all you do is resleeve-cylinder requires special tools to do this, then you get your pistons and rings of large size.
